Birth registration
If you are going to register your baby, you must bring the following with you:
- An identification document;
- The marriage certificate or papers of the acknowledgement;
- The name of the midwife or doctor who was present when the baby was born;
- Your baby's full name, birth date and time.
Wij geven je na de bevalling een formulier waarop dit staat vermeld.
Als je baby in VieCuri is geboren kun je online aangifte doen. Scan daarvoor de QR-code op het formulier.
Maternity care
After the delivery has been completed, the maternity bed begins. These are the first 8 days after delivery. During this week we will make regular home visits to see how things are going. During the delivery, we call the maternity centre to arrange a maternity nurse who will assist during the delivery and who will take care of mother and child during the maternity bed. She will contact us for details.
It may be necessary for your pregnancy and delivery to be fully supervised by a gynaecologist at the hospital. As soon as you can go home, a maternity nurse will be arranged. During pregnancy you can always contact us to get acquainted. As soon as you go home after the birth, the maternity nurse or the hospital will contact us and we will take care of the maternity bed checks.
The eighth day of the maternity bed is in principle the last day that we will visit you. The care for the baby will be done by the consultation office from then on. They will be informed by the maternity nurse by means of a written transfer. When we have supervised your pregnancy and delivery, there is a follow-up telephone call after 3 weeks. We will then discuss how things are going, any questions about contraception and whether there is a need for a follow-up check-up at the practice.
Breastfeeding / bottle feeding
Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding is the best thing you can give your baby. It has everything a baby needs. It protects against all kinds of infections and allergies. It protects against obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure later in life. It is always at the right temperature and free. Breastfeeding also has benefits for the mother, it ensures that the uterus shrinks again quickly after delivery, so that blood loss is limited. Long-term feeding reduces the risk of breast and cervical cancer.
We are happy to answer your questions about breastfeeding during the consultation. We recommend attending an evening about breastfeeding during pregnancy (see available courses on our website). This information evening is held at the practice, every first Monday evening of the month. When it comes to breastfeeding, practice makes perfect and all things can be learned. We will guide you as best as possible during your maternity period.
Bottle feeding
There can be a number of reasons why you choose to bottle feed. Sometimes it is necessary because of drugs that you are taking, or for other medical reasons. Nowadays all brands of food are of good quality. You can get the standard nutrition from 0-6 months. In a number of cases it is necessary to start with hypo-allergenic food: for example, when there are serious allergies in the immediate family. You can discuss this with the midwife. There are many types of bottles and teats for sale. And we only know after birth how your baby drinks and what he/she needs. It is therefore wise not to buy a so-called "starter package" containing several bottles of one brand. Two different brands of bottles will suffice during the first few days, and if your child needs a different type of bottle, then this is bought in no time.
Heel prick and hearing screening
The blood is tested for a number of rare, but serious diseases. The diseases cannot be cured, but if they are detected in time, they can be treated.
The hearing test is performed at the same time as the heel prick. This test takes a few minutes and is painless. Sometimes the result is not completely clear, due to too much earwax or fluid in the ear canal. In these instances, the test has to be repeated again at a later time.
More information
During your pregnancy you received a brochure from us about both tests. For more information, visit the RIVM.
